Reading Response: The Look.

This is the reading response I wrote after reading "The Look" by Larry Lehna. This is my favorite story; therefore, it is my favorite reading response.  The reason why I enjoyed writing about this story is that I loved reading it. "The Look" is about a man who spent eleven years in prison and had to have a hateful expression on his face called the look; he eventually lost the look after being released from prison and his academic advisor helped him get ready for college.

Here is the reading response:

“The Look” by Larry Lehna Reading Response

In “The Look” by Larry Lehna, the author talks about the emotionless and hateful face called “The Look” he had to wear for eleven years while he was in prison. He also talks about how he lost “The Look” after being released from prison and meeting with his academic advisor who was very kind to him and helped him with everything he needed to be ready for college.

The reading made me feel very happy, although it kind of made me want to cry. I just love reading and hearing about people succeeding after being through hard times; this story is special though; he describes all his emotions and feelings so well it makes you feel extremely sympathetic towards the author. The story made me think about getting back on your feet each time you fall. Larry Lehna was able to go back to school, graduate from college, and get his life together after being in prison for eleven years. If he was able to do that, we all have the ability to get back on our feet after tough times and keep going with our lives; that’s a connection I felt with the reading.

I agree with everything the author said. I agree with him because it is not easy to have a decent life after prison, but he made it happen.

If I had the chance to talk to the author, I’d tell him that he is an admirable person, that he is a great writer, and that the way he described his feelings and emotions in the story was spectacular. I think it’s great that he’s accomplished all his goals after all he’s been through.
